Softener + Carbon Filter
Soft water and chlorine-free water from one 2-in-1 system — hardness gone, plus chlorine, chloramine, bad taste and odours removed, professionally installed across Dufferin County and surrounding areas.
What Does a Softener + Carbon Filter Do?
Hard water is loaded with dissolved calcium and magnesium picked up as groundwater filters through rock and soil. A water softener removes those minerals through ion exchange: water flows through resin beads that capture hardness minerals and release a tiny amount of sodium in return. The result is water that lathers properly, leaves no scale in pipes and appliances, and feels better on skin and hair. This 2-in-1 system pairs that softener with a catalytic carbon stage, so the same system also strips chlorine, chloramine, bad taste and odours — one system, two jobs.
How Catalytic Carbon Works
Our carbon systems use catalytic carbon, which combines adsorption with a catalytic surface that actively breaks down chloramine and hydrogen sulphide — contaminants standard carbon struggles with. Water flows through the carbon bed, the system backwashes on a schedule to keep the bed clean, and the media typically lasts for years before needing replacement. There is a second payoff in a 2-in-1 system: chlorine shortens the life of softener resin and destroys RO membranes, so the carbon stage in front of the resin protects it, along with any UV or RO equipment downstream.
How We Size Your System
An undersized softener regenerates constantly, wasting salt and water; an oversized one costs more than necessary. We begin with free professional water testing — hardness and more — then factor in your household size and water usage to correctly size the resin tank and valve. Our premium softeners are built around Purolite SST-60 shallow-shell resin, which regenerates more completely while using less salt and water than conventional resin. We also offer cost-effective models built with 10% crosslinked resin. Our systems are based on Clack WS series and Pentair 5600 and 5800 family of valves — proven, serviceable platforms we know inside out and stock parts for. Every system is installed by our own technicians and scheduled within 5 business days. The carbon stage is sized to your flow rate and chlorine or chloramine levels so nothing slips through.
